Videoconferencing Product Review
Over the past 4 years, I have tested a variety of videoconferencing
systems. Below are my high level impressions. If you have a
specific question, feel free to email me.
- NetMeeting
- good AV quality, but can only see 1 site at a time
- CUseeMe
- poor AV quality (long and unpredictable latency), but can see up to 12 sites at a time
- MBone tools
- good AV quality at very high bandwidth, and does not limit the number
of remote sites
- iVisit
- good AV quality and community support (wrote by Tim Dorcey, who
brought us CUseeME)
- PolyCom and
PictureTel
- excellent AV quality and speaker tracking, but can only see 4 sites at a time
- Placeware
and WebEx
- secure data conferencing, but not really designed for videoconference
